2/10/2009 12:00:00 AM

Signed into law in 2008, the CPSIA is the most wide sweeping consumer product safety law enacted in several decades. The law was passed by strong majorities in both the House and Senate as a response to the high profile recalls of Chinese toys and products containing lead. The Act became effective on February 10, 2009, and requires that all products intended for use by children 12 and under, including books, will need to meet specific lead and phthalates limits, mandatory toy standards, and other requirements.
