RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to:
• Understand job Prep, Press, Perfect Binding related specifications.
• Interact with scheduling and supervisor to facilitate the daily schedule.
• Read and understand the job ticket and work order.
• Understand customer quality requirements and The D.B. Hess Co. quality specifications.
• Understand the proofs in checking Perfect Binding attributes.
2. Demonstrate the ability to make ready the perfect binder including:
• Pocket guide set-up.
• Grind adjustment.
• Glue thickness application setting.
• Setting clamp pressure.
• Cover feeder set-up and adjustment, including appropriate score wheels.
• Trimmer set-up, including slitters
• Counter stacker set-up.
3. Demonstrate compliance with perfect binder safety procedures.
4. Demonstrate the ability to operate the perfect binder at production speeds including:
• Operating run and jog controls.
• Setting binder speed.
• Setting conveyor speed and position.
• Pocket loading and materials handling/jogging.
5. Demonstrate skills in inspecting product for attributes including:
• Cover square-ness.
• Accurate trim
• Cleanly cut spine.
• Signatures properly collated.
• Glue thickness.
• Cover and text printing attributes.
• Excessive marking.
• Cover color register.
• Presence of print flaws (hickeys, scumming).
6. Demonstrate understanding of perfect binder production time requirements and company standards.
7. Demonstrate understanding of quality limitations and capabilities of the perfect binder.
8. Demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the use of:
• Job Ticket.
• Daily Production Schedule.
• Printing Attribute Inspection Reports.
• Non-conforming Material Reports.
• Quality Manual.
• Standard operating Procedures.
9. Demonstrate the ability to read a ruler in both inches and metric and pass a test in both.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

1. High School education or equivalent.

2. Minimum of 1 year as a perfect binder operator or 2 years as a bindery handworker with experience on the perfect binder.

3. The ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
