• Reviews production schedules and plans and assigns jobs to cost centers accordingly to ensure timely delivery of product. Confers with supervisors and leads in other departments to coordinate workflow. May attend daily production meetings to get and provide current job information. Reviews and resolves job information with various internal departments.
• Monitors production by getting machine counts periodically throughout shift and troubleshoots variances from expected production levels with cost center Operators.
• Assures adherence to quality standards by overseeing the continuous improvement process. Develops or revises department procedures and conducts procedural audits to assure compliance with standards. Participates on Process Improvement Teams. Makes decisions regarding acceptable quality levels in conjunction with department Manager and Quality Assurance Manager. May perform, or delegate, performing checkout approvals.
• Assists Operators and crews to resolve equipment and efficiency problems.
• Tracks departmental performance measures (productivity, quality, downtime, waste, etc.) and provides regular reports to Manager.
• Approves repair work orders and coordinates both repair and preventive maintenance to equipment.
• Oversees parts and departmental supplies inventory and approves parts/supply orders.
• Interviews and hires staff, or makes hiring recommendations, to fill open positions.
• Prepares and conducts performance appraisals and provides coaching and counseling to employees through regular performance feedback and one-on-one meetings
• Coordinates completion of employee job skills training based on needs identified in Skill Training Planners. May personally deliver job skills and safety training to subordinates.
• Interprets company policy and administers employee discipline. Makes recommendation to Manager regarding employee discharge.
• Maintains department morale and employee satisfaction by addressing employee concerns and complaints and facilitates problem resolution.
• Facilitates monthly or bi-monthly employee meetings to communicate operational issues and provide a forum for employee communication.
• Oversees employee scheduling, including making staffing changes to meet production schedules, approving vacation requests and securing vacation and absence coverage, and scheduling weekly overtime, as needed.
• Reviews and/or approves records related to employee timekeeping and attendance
• Completes weekly/monthly Safety Inspections and follows up as appropriate to maintain a safe working environment.
• Assists with preparation of department budget and monitoring adherence to budget
• Other duties as assigned
Qualification Requirements:
• Basic to intermediate personal computer skills in electronic mail, work processing, PRIMAC and spreadsheet software is required.
• Ability to maintain professional demeanor and clear mind while handling multiple job-related priorities and responding to varying levels of employee-related issues.
• Attention to detail and ability to produce error-free work.
• Ability to independently follow up on projects and judge when to involve superiors to expedite or troubleshoot problems or projects.
• Understanding of printing concepts and terminology.
Education and /or experience:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
